Is is a good idea to buy one now or shall i wait for a while? Here are the specs of the one i will get if i do.
MacBook Pro, 15-inch, 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
15.4-inch widescreen display (1440x900 resolution)
512MB (single SODIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
80GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 128MB GDDR3 memory
Built-in iSight Camera

Actually, i am also considering the imac. Any suggestions on which to go for?

if you need it urgent and those specs then go for it but if you can wait one week you'll know what will be released this year as the apple expo is in san fran on mon.

only negatives i've heard about the pro is that it can overheat but there is software out there you can download which allows you to control the fan speed. can't remember what it's called sorry

I've bought many Macbooks for my company. We've already decided we need 1gb of memory. It's makes a big difference and we're upgrading the 512s.
The imacs are pretty popular too. People like getting their desktop space back. It's just a matter of what you want. Moast of us have external LCD monitors for the macbooks, so we don't really have a need for the imac.

If have enough money for a mac pro why not buy a pc notebook, pc world is awful, it has a pathetic selection at inflated prices try laptops direct, newegg or bestbuy. For 3/4 of the price of a mac pro you could have a better pc, if you shop around, unlike with macs pcs are cheaper at different stores.

If you're a student and need maximum portability, then you'd best go for the macbook. I've got an iMac and I love it. The hard drives in the iMacs are faster being 7200 rpm.
