Hardware - January 2007

i am going to
assemble a computer in the next two days. i play lot of games and use
the internet for download of movies also.want my comp to be fast and
shold be upto date.i have prepared two config respectively. pls help me
with the advantages and problems with both the configs.
config 1.
Intel core 2 duo 6300 processor,945 m/b, 1 gb ram, sata 160 hdd, sony
dvd writer, 17'lcd monitor, 7300xfx graphics card..
config 2.
Intel 820 dual core processor, 945 m/b, 1 gb ram, sata 160 hdd, sony
dvd writer, 17'lcd monitor, 7300xfx graphics card

im thinking bout these two configs sir.pls help me in choosing the
best and if any changes can be made pls suggest to me.and about the
monitor, which brand is the best, samsung, acer or viewsonic.i wanted a 17'
wide screen.is it available in the market.the graphics card i already
bought.is it good.

I have searched this question but I dont see the same details as my problem.
My computer will just turn off on its own. I will be working and then bam it goes black yet I can hear the fans running in the case. Then I cant turn it back on by just simply pushing the button. I have to unplug the power cord wait for the fans to stop running and then plug it back in and push the button.
This is totally random. Sometimes when I am doing something very little like running MS word, sometimes when I am playing a game. Nothing in particular seems to cause the shut down.

I have already download Firefox bla bla bla. But when I click install, a window comes up, and it says "Would you like to FIND or save this file?" Wouldn't it usually say "Install or save"? plz help!!!

it was on autoplay, i cancelled, it cancelled for a few minutes then i tried to safely remove it but it would not let me, it just says try closing later.i just unplugged the device from the usb, what will happen to the harddisk..it was a harddisk from a laptop.thanks!

I have recently reinstalled windows xp as my computer was going slow but when it was all done in 'my computer' the dvd drive is listed under 'removable drives' i have a card reader so have several drives and my cd drive is now like 'H' drive - is there anyway of making it the 'D' drive again and putting it in a group for 'cd dvd devices'

I am looking in to getting a laptop for college, brought my desktop w/ me and now want a laptop. I like windows word, ppt, excel. I like my friends imac pro because of the stuff you can do w/ itunes and imovie and iphoto. Do the windows programs really work well on the macs?

I put a new hard drive into my computer, and when it almost loads windows it flickers a blue screen for just a moment, and restarts the Windows XP loading screen. It just does this over and over, no matter what I do in the BIOS. Has anyone had a similar problem? Thank you.

It boots to the screen where things start to load but I cant use restore since it says there is an error .Also says Primary Master disk HDD S.M.A.R.T capability disabled.It did say device driver error once or twice. I think I can get to drive A if I had a disc but I dont nI have parts and 2 other machines I WAS ABLE TO GET ALL THE WAY TO STARTING RESTORE and it would stop after several seconds of preparing. Ive had it a long time & I fixed it before by just changing a wire jumper from 1 slot to another but I forget where. Im trying to think of how to get to windows , I have another HD but not sure if compatable. It was booting every AM for weeks after several shutdows & reboot ,worked gr8. Now I cant get it all the way up. I just kept rebooting.Im lost. If any ideas please, please,help.

Western Digital 250GB 7200RPM SATA 2 Hard Drive 250

I'm a total Noob when it comes to installing hard drives, but I know my 30 GB drive is full and I need something bigger. I have an IBM ThinkCentre, it's newer. How do I tell if this hard drive will work??

My HP laptop was off, closed, and sitting on the table. It was not plugged into the power. All of a sudden a loud beeping noise came from the speakers. The screen is black and the lights are on, but the computer wont turn off. What is wrong?

Here are my PC specs:

AMD Sempron 3500+ Processor,
Gigabyte Nvidia 7600GT Video Card,
768MB DDR333 (PC2700) RAM,
80GB IDE Hard drive.

I'm considering upgrading my memory to 1GB of DDR400 RAM and/or a SATA 3.0GB/s hard drive. Would these upgrades make a significant improvement in performance? Would the memory or the hard drive help more? I play a lot of first-person shooter, so I'm looking for faster load times and also quicker ALT-tab switching to other programs when in fullscreen.

it's in every game, even in Cool Pool (which doesn't even need a pc to play).

i've installed the latest drivers, restarted the pc. and still it keeps happening with every game, even tho they all worked fine from True Crimes down to NFS: Carbon.

guys i need anything else instead of installing drivers
