A lot of people who answered your question have a good idea about how to stop the sounds, but to answer the part on how it might have happened in the first place it could have happened if you changed the Windows theme in the display properties. The themes have navigation sounds included.

Have you opened control panel? Open sounds and audio devices. Click on the sounds tab. You will get a list of sounds that accompany actions. Just delete the ones you don't want.

Go to sounds an audio devices under control panel.
Some wav files may have been associated with mouse movements. You can change or stop this at that area

It Is simple just go to START and open the control panel click on sounds and audio devices and open the sounds tab under SOUND SCHEME change it to windows default and click apply that should do it.

Turn off the sound on your computer.
Wear ear protectors.
Or, go to the Control Panel, Audio Options, and set them up the way you want them.

try this go to control panel and go to sounds and devices then go to the sounds tab. then on the program events you can change the sound of something or set it to none.
