The cost of course....

the main difference though would be the hardware. obviously the PC has many manufacturers and the quality of its components depends on the brand.

another difference would be the operating system that either computer has by default... mac-book comes with OS X and the PC generally comes with Windows.

you will always find better performance on a mac machine because as i said above, mac has more control about the hardware used in its machines, and Windows has to deal with several types of hardware and manufacturers, hence the increased use of system resources...

of course now a days the difference between macs and PC is getting thinner and thinner... mac now uses Intel based chip set and allows more compatibility with windows based software (and hardware) and you can now even install both operating systems and run them even at the same time (with some software's aid).

that's the differences I can think of right now.

The operating systems, in general the PC is designed to do everything but the emphasis on business and the Mac system was designed for graphic work........the PC grew into a very good graphic system and a great business system the Mac grew into a fantastic graphic system and good business system.

However it is all an academic subject now; the Mac with Intel Inside can run both Windows and OS X(the Mac OS) When you buy the new Mac it comes with OS X and a program called Boot Camp which allows you to boot Windows if you've loaded it. But Boot Camp does not allow you to run them at the same time. A third party program called Parallels $80. dollars or so will allow you to run them both at the same time.

For my money it is the best or two worlds and this will be my choice for my next computer.

Ok - as you might know MacBook is made by apple and runs Mac OSX but you can load windows OS if you use their Bootcamp.

Laptops mostly run Windows, though you can load Linux or other OS on them. MacBook is manufactured by Apple and Apple only.

While Laptops are manufactured by various manufacturers. As for he specifications, MacBooks use Intel processors only, while other laptops might have Intel or AMD or Via or someother x86 processors.

MacBooks are more expensive than Laptops. In simple terms MacBook is a Laptop that's made by Apple.
