I put a new hard drive into my computer, and when it almost loads windows it flickers a blue screen for just a moment, and restarts the Windows XP loading screen. It just does this over and over, no matter what I do in the BIOS. Has anyone had a similar problem? Thank you.

You may need to set the jumpers on the back of your hard drive refer to your manuel to do this. Also is this hard drive your boot drive see that that option is not cheked in the Bios.

This normally happen with windows when installing new hardware. Open the system and change the cmos jumper to reset. Startup the computer. After a few seconds it will shut off. Change to the jumper back to normal and restart the computer.
If the problem still occur turn off the computer and remove 1 stick of ram if you have two modules installed. Reboot the computer. If you still have no luck switch the RAM stick and try again. You may also need to give the computer a chance to reset the new hardware. Turn the computer off and let it sit for about 10 -15 minutes and try again. If you cannot get the computer to start properly then most likely there is a problem with you RAM. ry replacing it.

Pull the new drive out and make sure it goes back to working, if not, you may have installed something incorrectly, or damaged something while installing it (computers are really susceptible to static electricity)

Otherwise, check the jumpers, the main drive should be the master, and the new one should be set to slave.

Go into your BIOS (usually by pressing delete or something while booting) and make sure the computer is seeing the drive before you try to boot into windows.

Have you tried loading the PC in Safe Mode? During boot up, repeatedly press the F8 key until you get a screen that offers you the Safe Mode option (should happen before you see the Windows logo). Once in Safe Mode you can view the Event Log and hopefully) see what the Blue Screen error is that is rebooting the PC.

Check the jumper settings on the hard drive, and make sure that they aren't conflicting with any other hard drive or cd drive.
