Here are my PC specs:

AMD Sempron 3500+ Processor,
Gigabyte Nvidia 7600GT Video Card,
768MB DDR333 (PC2700) RAM,
80GB IDE Hard drive.

I'm considering upgrading my memory to 1GB of DDR400 RAM and/or a SATA 3.0GB/s hard drive. Would these upgrades make a significant improvement in performance? Would the memory or the hard drive help more? I play a lot of first-person shooter, so I'm looking for faster load times and also quicker ALT-tab switching to other programs when in fullscreen.

Yeah, I have a SATA 3.0GBs and it's just awesome.. I load up windows in 30 seconds with 512MB ram and a Pentium D 820. And with that memory upgrade, you'd have a ton of speed. It's definitely worth it. I think the hard drive would make the most difference.

Well, if you upgrade to 1 GB of memory that would help in performance. Also, check to see if your machine can handle the DDR 400. Just because you buy a faster memory card, does not mean your machine will improve. And prices for the PC3200 and PC2700 may be different. But I use a PC3200 memory card on mine (downward compatible, at SAM'S)but it runs at the PC2700 speed. Now if you want buy the SATA 3 GB, buy the one with the most memory on it. Also see if you can get a good used Nvidia 7800 with 256 bit. That would improve gaming performance. But buying th SATA 3 GB and buying max memory will improve performance.

When i upgraded my Ram from ddr333 to ddr400, the only difference i really felt or saw was in the benchmarks, i can't say i feel it going faster in everyday usage.

And the hard drive change is minimal you may save 1 seconds in load times.

Suggestion : to really see an improvement in your system, you need better CPU minimum. Sempron = garbage.

RAM is one thing that always help. As for the disk space, go for a 350GB or better (500!!!). They are not that expensive and Disk Space for FPS is always best to have a ,lots of it.
