Unless you use your computer to compile computer code and create applications (if you are a software engineer,) there is no *clear* advantage to getting a PC. Macs not only have all the windows office software available for the OS X, but they can also boot a copy of the Microsoft Windows OS.

Short answer, YES. The windows programs really work well on the macs, especially if you are only/mostly interested in word/ppt/excel.

PS: I own a PC, and love it, but I'd still recommend a mac.

Mac- without a doubt.
Yes- all new macs can just as easily run windows. In fact- apple will give you a free program.

iphoto is fine. But- on windows you can use (free) Picasa2. Even better I think. iTunes works seemlessly on both platforms. MS Office (word, excel, ppt) works fine on both platforms. You would need to buy a program for the PC to duplicate imovie. If there's a comparable free one- I don't know of it.

You can run some windows programs on macs, but you have to install a program to let you do it.

They already make a version of Word for Mac though. If you are just using it for word processing, video, music, internet, and e-mail then the mac is great, though a little pricy.

If you want to be able to reliably use the thousands of programs available for windows, i'd get a dell. They even have them with AMD processors now, which brings their already low prices down even more.

The most important consideration is what sort of support you can get from your friends and family. Since you do not sound like a computer expert, you need to be sure to have something that you can get free support for (every computer needs help occasionally).

The other thing is that for basic student needs, Windows machines are generally cheaper, so if money is an issue I'd suggest Windows machine.

the only things macs do better than pc's is photo editing and movie making. as far as work for collage and important stuff you will want a PC laptop. they are upgradable so you can put new parts in it if something were to break or become outdated. and they run windows progams a whole hell of a lot better because thay RUN ON WINDOWS. so if you want to use the windows biusness pack like word ppt exel you will want a PC. Macs are overrated peices of trash that arent upgradable so you dont want one trust me it isnt worht it.

It really depends on your budget. Macs are better computers but even with windows I still feel they limit what you can do. If you have the financial ability to afford a Mac then go for it. If not then get a good PC.

It relies upon what you choose and how plenty you could arise with the money for. a workstation is alot greater decrease priced, you will get each and all the area for storing you choose and purely approximately any application will run on it. notwithstanding, they are greater susceptible to viruses and so on and that they start to deteriate and alter into slower. A Mac notwithstanding is astounding for image and video enhancing, they artwork completely with ipods and so on, their speedy overall performance lasts and that they don't get viruses certainly. notwithstanding, they are particularly high priced and an excellent sort of abode windows classes won't run on them except you install a parallel laptop. in case you have have been given the money decide for a Mac, they have an excellent sort of progressed advantageous factors and greater efficient overall performance than a workstation. And in case you have the abode windows xp/vista application then you definitely can load that on and turn between mac and workstation. notwithstanding, you will get an excellent high quality workstation which will final you some years devoid of the fuss of procuring for application which will run on it.

It depends on your degree--If it's more of a business or science oriented degree a ibm compatibal will be better. You will still be able to do itunes with it with certain programs and there are photo studios and movie players available. If you are involved with a fine arts program then I would definatly go with the mac, which seems to be superior with graphics and music, but tends to be a little more pricey.

depending on your needs, i have experienced that pc's are much easier to deal with when it comes to repairs and that sort, but macs are fun on the media side of the house, music, movies, etc. if you have an ipod, and love it, chances are youll love a mac. even though im not a big fan of apple, there not a horrible choice for a college student laptop.

Yup. I have a MacBook with Office for Mac and everything works great. Granted, since its not native software it runs a little slower, but the security and stabilty of the Mac OS more than makes up for it.
