If the FAN was made for a computer application, then the 4-pin MOLEX (big) mini connector will probably come with an adapter mate with the three pin header soldered to the motherboard just fine. $3 at COMPusa. The RED and BLACK are the only significant wires which provide 12 volts to the fan. The motherboard is looking for a 3rd signal for SPEED (tach). A 4-pin MOLEX fan doesn't have the SPEED wire. You can adapter it to be driven from the 2 power pins on the motherboard, but you won't see fan speed.

I trust the different poster declaring that the 4 pin is adaptable with the three pin. I run particularly 3 pin followers in my computer, yet my motherboard has purely 4 pin connectors. you could not administration the 4 pin fan with a three pin enter. you could purely study the value of the fan, for that's going to purely run at finished velocity.

It's hard to say which wire is which, so you probably shouldn't, just in case it shorts something out.

It would suck to fry your motherboard over a stupid fan.
