Hardware - December 2006

I'm wasting, not only paper, but also ink (very expensive and not refillable, which I think is totally idiotic!!), time and patience. It would be a lot cheaper to have the pictures sent to a company to do them for me, but I have my own way of doing them.

I got this really old computer. The only thing that I know at the moment..It's a "AMD 900mhz"

Anyways, I tried turning it on, but windows wouldn't loud. That part doesn't worry me right now. The part that worries be about is that..
I accidently went to the settings, and I put "First load CD-ROM" and now my computer doesn't even turn on. What can I do!? HELP!

I have a Pentium 4, 1.6 Gig 256RAM laptop
They say cams consume a lot of working memory on a pc
Do you think I even need a fast trnsfer USB 2 cam like 1.3mp one?
I mean how do I find out if my laptop can even handle it...(I do have a USB 2.0 port)
do you know or had similar issues...

I took the bottom off my laptop to check it out , reseated the ram and cleaned the fans. Everything looks ok under there. I put it all back together again and now...

when I turn it on, it powers up but the screen is black and the fans come on, then they turn off, then they come on again, and then my laptop shuts off.

What the heck is goin on? Anyone have any ideas (other than getting someone else to do it)?

My hard drive seems to go mad with activity when I try ans access a program. I have defraged my drive, cleaned all redundant files and removed stuff I don't use any longer, but Opera takes upto 10 seconds to open. It especialy takes longer when I leave the pc for more than 10 mins unattended! What causes the hard drive to seek so much? What should I do? Many thanks people! :-)

okay.. i copied some vista tranformation tool and changed my windows media center edition look to vista appearance. i ddnt like it so i uninstalled it back. in the process, the system lost its ability to produce sound. i mean there is no sound at all. i checked the software part.theres no prob with it. i checked all the connections.they are all fine. and the hard drive icon has also changed to somthg (the icon that normally appears for .dat files)
i tried to system restore but unfortunately i dnt create any restore point.
wat should i do now?please help me/

Hi. I have an HP Pavillion laptop (zx5000) and I had to check the power supply. I took the case off and so I took the screws out on the bottom carefully, opened it up, took the little cover off the fans, got in there, saw the problem, then put everything back where it was. I was grounded and didn't let any moisture in. I didn't hear a beep or anything and now when I try to power it up, it turns on but the screen stays black.
The fans turn on, the thing powers up, then the fans turn off and windows never comes up.

Can anyone tell me what to check or what I can do?

I have two NEC MultiSync FE771SB-BK screens at home that I would like to sell. They are 2003 17" flat screen CRT's. I'll probably sell them on Craigslist but I would like to sell them at a fair price. They are still in good condition and were used in an office environment.

i'm a gamer and i wan't to get a new processor what would be best for gameing the Intel Pentium 4 or the Intel Core 2 Duo. the way I see the Pentium 4 has more Processor speed and i think it's better than the Core 2 Duo. I wan't the best!!!

I have a fifteen year old Compaq laptop that currently needs a bios battery. It has a small hard drive and not much memory. It has Win 95. I don't have any specific applications to use on it. I'm just wondering if it has any value that I'm missing.

big thanks to all who had answer my previous question about removing a password. i failed to make it clear that it was a bios password.
i had once remove a bios password of a generic motherboard by detaching/attaching the jumper. but this time it is difficult because the main board of dell computer seems very strange to me.

I'm trying to plug in my computer monitor and it won't fit in the back of my PC because one of the cable's metal prongs is missing and the others are a little bent out of shape. It doesn't fit evenly enough to plug in. How can I fix this? Is it a total loss? Please help!!!!

Big up yourself, I be making a computer, I have a graphics card (it couldn't even run age of empires 1), a sound card, a wireless chip that lets me hook onto my neighbors internet connection (JK), a modem, a 20GB hard drive and a floppy drive, I get 80 squid (pounds) a month so I have a tight yet goodish budget innit. Oh yeah, BTW I am 13 year old super neek.
