No one has really hit this on the head so far. The correct answer is Core 2 Duo, now here is why. First of all, you cannot just add doubly the speed because it is dual core, people who said that showed they have no clue what they are talking about. The Core 2 Duos are faster even though they have a smaller clock speed for several reasons. They have more cache, they have faster front side buses, and they processor more instructions per cycle. In addition, the fact that they are dual core will help in games because the second core can do background tasks while the first core focuses on the games. If you want proof, take a look at this benchmark:http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=433&model2=453&chart=166
it compares the fastest P4, at 3.8Ghz, versus a low end Core 2 Duo at 1.86Ghz. The game is Quake, and you can see how much better the Core 2 Duo performs. You can try other games on their as well, and the Core 2 Duo will always be better.

The Core duo is essentially two processors in one. So while the clock speed may not be as fast it does the work of two processors. Especially for games the Duo core is much much faster.

The best is core 2 duo. They are a new architecture and they are replacing pentium 4 processors. Core 2 duo is much faster working at less ghz, specially in games. This means less heat generation and more power efficiency. If you are not sure, check it in tomshardware page.
I wouldn´t doubt it.

the Duo is essentially two processors in one. so a rough equivalent of the duo-core speed is to take the speed listed and multiply it by 2.

Or wait for about 6 months until intel and AMD launch their quad-core processors.

well if you want the best go for a quad core processor. There super expensive but there fast and the best out there
