You can't. Unless the printer is an all-in one. Meaning that it has a scanner built in. You can just buy one if you don't have it. Check froogle.com
Or for a more economical option just go to your local photo shop (you can usually find one in a drug store) and ask them to do it for you. Meaning scan the picture and put it on a cd so that you can upload to your computer.

if your printer even has the scan option, there should be a button labeled "scan" on the front of the printer.
If that didn't help, try reading the manual or contacting the company of the machine with the phone number located at the bottom of the printer.

Try searching the website of the manufacturer of your printer/scanner for a driver. If they have the correct software, you can start the scan using the software.

Unless you have a Scanner/printer combo unit, you can't scan without a scanner.

You don't scan on a printer-u print on a printer- u scan on a scanner-unless u have a printer/scanner then u can do both. =)

I have used a HP 990 cse for over 6 years, publishing a 20 page newsletter for my private outlet, I print about 6000 pages a month, 2 sided, set as default in tool box and the best dam printer I have ever owned. (sorry, they don't make them anymore, ) Try on Ebay

if your printer has a scanning feature, put the picture on the flatbed and look for scanning features under the file menu.
