I'm trying to plug in my computer monitor and it won't fit in the back of my PC because one of the cable's metal prongs is missing and the others are a little bent out of shape. It doesn't fit evenly enough to plug in. How can I fix this? Is it a total loss? Please help!!!!

Firs tof all, not all pins are used - so you may well be lucky that it is one of the unused ones.

GENTLY bend the other pins back into position. Most of the time you will get lucky.

If there actually is one missing, then it might be difficult to fix, but usually monitor cables actually do not have prongs in every one of the 15 holes. So you could try carefully bending the bent prongs back using tweezers or a small screwdriver, and seeing if the cable works.

Try to bend back the bent pins using a needle nose plier. I've done this before and it should be ok. Try to get it as perfectly straight as possible.

If the missing pin is truly missing and not broken off, then that should still be ok; some monitors don't use all 15 pins.

You can always bend the metal prongs back to their original spot, even with that one missing, and use the monitor. Although, one of the effects of missing a prong MIGHT be, you'll be missing a certain color. Like say, the letters that are typed in black like this might not be seen. The color mishap hasn't happened to me.

.
Another option is to go on ebay and pick up a cable for a song. Many folks toss out their old monitors, but keep and resell the cables.

I once had this problem on the dock of my old laptop. I don't remember if it was fixable, but we saved ourselves a lot of trouble and bought a new one.
