How does a laptop touch pad work and how come they only sense your finger? I tried using something soft over the touch pad and the mouse didn't move, I also tried metal things too. I'm confused :(

My laptops' fan works fine but when I close the lid it goes on standby and that's fine too. Whenever I open it up again and it comes out of standby, for some reason the fan stays on maximum power and won't turn off and on like laptops should, it just stays on. Even when the system is cool it does this. Do you know why?

when I close down windows rather than it just going away it slowly drains from top to bottom? Might not be a great explanation I will try again. When I click the x to shut it, from the top of the window it just disappears down down and down it goes. Not unlike a egg timer. I have McAfee which is up to date and I have scanned for viruses and never find anything.

Any Ideas anyone?

P.S Might be imagining it but it seems slower than it used to be and there is only about 30% disc space used up.

Im planning on traveling to Europe over the summer and I want to know if the laptop will be affected by the airports metal detectors. Im afraid that it could erase info on my hard drive or damage parts of the computer.

I originally had them both in dimm slots 1&2, and the computer would not post. Now I have them in slots 2&3 (there are only 3 slots) and it works, but it says 333 mhz. The mb manual says only 2 slots will be able to utilize ddr 400, but it doesn't say which 2!!

Is there maybe a bios setting I have to make before I install them in slots 1&2 to make them work at 400mhz? Or, is it the frequency/multiple setting that is limiting the speed? I have an athlon 64 3000+ running at 2ghz.

Thanks.

Hi all,

I am thinking of purchasing an external hard drive. My current computer is an XP pro. I am thinking of using the external hard drive with this computer. However, I am also considering purchasing a new computer with Vista in the near future. Are current external hard drives compatible with Vista?

Also, if you have any suggestions on good external hard drives, please let me know.

Thanks!

I read the specs for both of them and I can't figure out why the glaring rating difference? My best guess, it's subjective and I should ignore the "ratings". I was leaning towards the 2nd one. Btw.. is compaq a good company as HP and Toshiba's and Dell's or once again.. everyone has their "favorites"??

It just isn't working, there is an error message at startup saying something, and I checked the connection.

Uh oh.... I just tried to look at my system properties and that couldn't be found >.<

Guess this comp. is screwed... Anyway, its a Dell Dimension 4600, Win XP Home, Pentium 4

The fan says JMC-DA TECH on it, www.imcproducts.com

Guess I should look at the site while I wait for answers...

I have a problem with my son's computer. It is a custom built computer and is running on XP with a realtek 97 AC sound card. (I think). I had the same problem after an automatic update but cannot remember how I solved it. I have tried system restore, uninstalled and reinstalled the card and find I am in a bigger mess than before. Now he needs directX 9.0. So rather than mess it up more can someone help me get out of this mess? Thank you very much.
