You can order replacement fans for most processors. They just wear out, Usually the bearings go bad and they stop spinning all together or they don't spin fast enough to provide effective cooling. These little fans are very easy to replace so I wouldn't scrap out your computer yet. It is likely that you haven't done any permanent damage to your processor.

Computer equipment will not operate with a Failed fan....The Good ones, anyway.

Reason: A failed Fan may cause a failed power supply.

Look at the Box and determine if the Fan is rotating at all.

It could be a loose connection, remote possibility.

Chances are the Fan may have failed.....The Bearings are prone to failure.

You have a few options here: Order a new Fan and replace the Fan your self or take the Box to a service center for repair.

Replacement Fans are relatively inexpensive, but the Service center Labor rate may be high.

If the Fan is the ONLY problem, you are getting off inexpensive.

Should the problem be another issue, then a Service center is your only option.

I really hate to ask this question.....Do you have a Service agreement with Dell?

Good Luck,

Mav

Causes: Dust, Heat, Age. Heat is the number one killer of anything in a PC. Dust is the number one killer of fans and pretty much everything else because it chokes air flow and causes - heat. Additions to previous answers: Most fans are easily replaced. In Dell machines there are the following possibilities: The fan on the CPU is accessible and will snap out or unscrew easily, or, the heat-sink/fan assembly is easily replace-able, or, the CPU is "shrouded" with a plastic assembly that must be removed first. Inexperienced individuals should consider having a service perform repairs. It's probably time to have the dust cleaned out anyway. You would be amazed at how quickly it builds up.

I can't tell you how many Dell's I have seen that have this type of fan failure. It always the same model fan as you describe. We always have them come out to fix our them here. They are under warranty/extended warramty. We have about 400 of them and about 30 percent have failed due to thermal failure/ bad capacitors or bad power supplys.

In short, call dell. If they cant wont do anything due to a expired warranty, you can buy this fan on ebay for a decent price. I dont know, but dell extended the warranty time on some of our machines because of the known problems certain GX series models were having.

My wager is that it extremely is the two some form of sickness interior the applying that turns the fan on and rancid, or it extremely is a sprint airborne dirt and dust caught in it that makes it end. Or it extremely is a loose cord, or a defective fan. attempt a Google seek for DELL INSPIRON FAN venture and different comparable seek words. i've got solved countless laptop issues as a results of utilising looking the internet and examining what different people who had the comparable venture pronounced approximately it.

Don't know, but you can easily replace it whether it's the power supply fan or the processor fan.

Your computer is not screwed. Just needs some maintenance.

Cheaper fans have crappo bearings, and can easilly fail. Don't run the machine with out a fan, go buy one.

Fan itself might be dead or it might have come loose from the place on the motherboard where it gets power. Hopefully it's the second one :)

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
