I originally had them both in dimm slots 1&2, and the computer would not post. Now I have them in slots 2&3 (there are only 3 slots) and it works, but it says 333 mhz. The mb manual says only 2 slots will be able to utilize ddr 400, but it doesn't say which 2!!

Is there maybe a bios setting I have to make before I install them in slots 1&2 to make them work at 400mhz? Or, is it the frequency/multiple setting that is limiting the speed? I have an athlon 64 3000+ running at 2ghz.

Thanks.

400 MHz is T1 timing by default it will run in T2 timing at 333 MHz it is the memory controller setting these timings. If you want your 400 MHz timing back switch them all to single sided memory chips. What I mean is 8 chips to a side not 16 chips double sided memory. Older AMD's do this. 333 MHz or 400 MHz is really nothing to get excited about. The performance boost is the extra ram. This makes more of a difference.

Could you post the mobo you're using?

Have you tried putting them in slots 1 & 3? Try that and see what you're getting.

If that doesn't work, put one stick in at a time in slot 1, boot and ensure that it's reading 400 mhz. (To make sure neither of the sticks are bad/going bad)

If both are good, put them back in and enter your BIOS settings. Make sure that the Max Memclock is set to 400mhz.

You may also have to tweak with the RAM voltage, but remember: Do so at your own risk! Make small changes at a time!
