I thought it was the power supply, so I installed a new power supply last week, then that didn't work. I then had a geek friend clean out and put thermal stuff on the cpu - he was thinking that could be the problem. That did the trick for a few days, but then I noticed that the clock and date are wrong when starting up again. Then it did it again - shut off right after the long continuous beep alarm sounds until I unplug it or turn of the rocker switch at the back of the power supppy. What else could be the problem? And how do I check it without spending tons of money on a service call?

For the past few weeks, my dell laptop has been running on the battery power, even though I have it plugged in to my adapter. I usually don't notice it until I get a pop up message from my computer telling me to change the power source. The battery will usually start charging when I change outlets. Now, all of a sudden last week, I can't charge the battery at all with the adapter. I plug it into an outlet, and it won't charge. My battery is dead dead dead. I am thinking it is the adapter, the little green indicator light won't even light up.

I ordered a new adapter from Dell this morning...

Any ideas or input?

FYI - it is a Dell XPS M140 - less than one year old

I've never had problems before it just started happening today. I'm typing my term paper and all I have opened is Microsoft word, internet, and itunes. All of a sudden the screen would turn blue with all these number and configuration...like the one that pops-up when something is wrong...you only see it for 1 second and then the pc would just restart. When I reopen, a message stating the the pc has recovered from serious a problem would pop-out and asks me if i want to send a report to microsoft. When I send it, I get a summary that it has something to do with a device driver. Anybody can help??

and sometimes have to turn it off and reboot 3-4 times to get it to start. It is this way on battery as well as AC power. It has MS office , Windows XP ...but little else on it... (no games, music etc...and even very few files)...so there is lots of room left...
Even after it boots ,the cursor often freezes (with keyboard mouse as well as external wireless) and even sometimes when you type ...the letters will not show up for a few minutes....When I start it has about 37 or 38 processes running...and says has lots left..any ideas of what is wrong...is it worthwhile to get someone to look at it...is it an expensive fix? Thanks

Anyone know where I can get a relatively cheap iMac in the UK?

Needs to have above-avg specs, as I need it for professional music recording and post production. Online shopping a plus.
Preferably not a 17" - larger would be nicer...

Okay so here goes, my pc (laptop) would shut down, sometimes blue screen. I in turn decided to start fresh and reinstall my OS and apps from the disks that came with my system. Was working fine for a while then began to encounter issues (blue screen). I did a system scan and the result suggested I download an update from microsoft KB..for blue screen. pc shut down again. When I decided to do another reinstall I deleted the partition and reinstalled the OS using the partition space. Does the disks that come with the system include everything on the original system configured partition ? I'm thinking that the original partition may have contained additional info. I do not do much downloading and there does not appear to be any viruses. I think it is more so configuration issues, possible registry, not sure. How do I get my default configuration back without having to send it out to the manufacturer to have it reconfigured to its original state. Thanks..
