You NEVER attempt to write on the boot sector of a hard drive. what has obviously happened is that a file has become corrupted. I hope you have a MOS Startup disc that you have made on a Floppy disc. If you have one, 1. place it in your Floppy drive and attempt to boot your computer. If This is unsuccesful, 2. place the CD that contains the operating system, such as Windows XP and reload the operating system. If you have to perform #2, You may lose all data that you have saved to your computer including all software that you have installed. You can always reload the software if you have the CD's. If Your computer boots, but you have lost certain files in the OS, Then do a 3. System Restore and restore to an earlier date that the computer worked OK. If this does not solve the problem, buy a bunch of CD's and backup all your files on the computer that you have added and saved. Then do a 4. System Recovery. this will completey wipe the Hard drive clean and reformat it and will wipe out all your files as well as software that you have installed. #4 is a last ditch attempt and should only be done when all else has failed.

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.
