I'm getting a laptop for Christmas and I need a wireless internet connection. What do I need installed on the laptop and what type of wireless router do I need? It's a customizable Compaq Presario V3000Z series. (I've always used Compaq, works fine for me.) So can you PLEASE help?

Nothing. Nowaday, new laptops all have wireless built-in. So you need not do anything to your laptop.

You will need to get a wireless router to be setup after your modem. Get the more popular brand like D0Link or Linksys as they follows the industrial standard.

get a linksys router and a wireless cisco chip. the linkys router is about $70 and the chip is about $40-70

I would go with Wireless-G. You can mix and match any router and wireless card (or built-in wireless if you get it). You can get a router from Wal-Mart or if you want to buy online (it's cheaper) go to TigerDirect and check them out.

I have got the same laptop as you. I think you should use Link. Well any will be good. Just one that is in your HP wireless internet setup configuration.

the laptop has built-in wireless already. What you need is DSL / Cable modem WITH wireless support (802.11x).

Buy linksys router and nothing else for your laptop, you need DSL account (Internet)
