Hardware - November 2006

I have a Sony Vaio running Windows XP version 2002, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz 2.39 GHz, 480 MB of RAM also have about 80gb of storage with about 50gb left. I'm a drafter and run AutoCad and also would like to get into Movie editing....any suggestions in upgrading the PC I have now would be greatly appreciated.

I want to be able to record as much over the air HDTV programming on a computer to use as my DVR. Most of the TV shows I watch are on network TV and I don't want to pay the extra bucks to upgrade my satellito to HD programming. Converting to HD programming via Satellite or Cable is too costly when I all the shows I like are free in the first place.

i just got my computer from a company that didnt want it anymore. and it has the companies like network software and has a password to even get to the start menu, ive called the company and they dont know the password and i cant get on the computer, how do i delete the companies opersating system, if thats what it is. would just buying like windows and just installing it over it work? please someone help! thank you

I have 512mb Ram in my computer right now, how much difference will it be to gaming on my machine with 1 GB and how much will that run me to upgrade to a stick with 1GB? I have a geforce 256mb 6800 and 2 ghz pentium 4 processor.

OK so i opened up a earlier x-mas present my new laptop and router, im not new to computers but for some reason my laptop wont find my router or other wireless service where i live, I had another laptop but my mom crashed it so i know theres wireless around. I hooked up the router and followed directions it said the connection is good. I have a westinghouse laptop. Any advice? im lost.

i have the a/v hook ups on the back of the computer and i have windows xp. i tried doing it with media center but i cant figure it out. is there a program for this so i can run stuff through my monitor with a/v hooks ups or can you explain to me how to do it with media center

i have a brand new inspiron 1505 2 G of memory and dual centrino. and I have a gateway desktop that is 7 years old its got 180 of memory and its a piece of literarly s***. how come when i go to play videos on like youtube or google videos, my piece of s*** gateway loads them way faster than brand new superfast dell laptop?? is there a plugin that i need or sumthin i need to download to make it do that stuff faster??

I own a 4 year old 1955-S805 Satellite Toshiba notebook and all of a sudden the touchpad stop working along with the right/left buttons. I haven't recently install no new software. I tried to uninstall the driver and that didn't work. I reverted my hard drive to an earlier time, that didn't work. It shows that the device is enabled and working properly, but it's not. Right now I am using a USB mouse, which seems to be working. I don't know what else to do. Do you?

I have a Netgear Router, Windows XP with service pack 2, and I am using Wireles, My Computer is brand new, and it connects great to other wireless conections but not my own, Like I just mentioned I have a Netgear Router Model WGR614 v.6 and it has a high signal strength, and I am only 10 feet away and my internet is super slow why can I do?, I also have a freinf who has an Apple Laptop and his signal is great but his connection is also slow at my house. what can I do.

When i turn on my pc it boots up and loads windows then 1 out of 2 times it will just go to a black screen and just sits there doing nothing! then some times in windows it also just goes black randomy and wont come back to life with out a restart.

Any idea whats wrong with it? ive been trying 2 work it out for months..

My Gateway laptop bit the dust and the computer expert says I need to uninstall everything so he can "restore" my original computer and reinstall all my programs. We've moved a few times recently. I have my Gateway Drivers CD and most of my software programs, but I cannot find the Gateway Restore disk.

Also, the expert told me part of the problem is having something like Yahoo Messenger on my computer (I never use it.) or downloading music. (I've never used anything like itunes.)

What can I do???

My computer is about 3 years old. Is it possible to completly "start over" and have everything cleared out and re-install the programs?

I have an ATI Mobility x1400 in my Inspiron E1705 from Dell. I have recently reinstalled Windows XP, and my a video I had saved on my flash drive now only plays in weird rainbow colors. I installed the drivers for everything from Dell, but it still won't play right. Can I get new/better drivers, or is my video card messed up?
