I'm wanting to build a "Super Computer," or in other words a top-of-the-line commercial machine. I have general knowledge on how to assemble them once I've purchased the necessary components, but I'm still unsure as to what are the best products to get. If it helps, here is the purpose of the machine;

The computer is supposed to be capable of peforming on multiple LCD screens (I'm purchashing a MOView Quad Monitor Stand.) It should be furnished with the best motherboard and processor, preferably a dual-processor. It should have the greatest amount of RAM that is available and all this within a full-sized tower.

Multiple 3D Engine applications will be ran on this machine with Microsoft XP Pro. While not specifically a gaming machine, it will be required to run highly detailed graphics. I also desire in having multiple HDs, 750GB a piece. If any more information is needed, feel free to e-mail me noah_none@yahoo.com

Thanks for any and all input.

I have the hard drive installed as the secondary slave. I also have a Quantium Fireball 20GB hard drive on the primary master. The bios detects the 20GB but not the 82GB.

I'll be purchasing a Lenovo 3000 N100 in the next week or so. It'll have the following specs:

Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz
XP Professional
14.1" VibrantView TFT Screen
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
80GB, 5400rpm Serial ATA
8x DVD-R
Modem/Ethernet/ABG/Bluetooth

Should I choose 512Mb or 1GB of RAM? It's $90 more for the extra RAM, so I'm not worried about the price, too much. But, I'm not buying the notebook, it's a present from my parents, so I'd like to keep their cost as low as possible.

Programs that I'll be running:
Office Professional - including Access
Quickbooks
Internet
No hard core (Sims, Doom, etc) gaming - only internet and standard games
I am considering upgrading to Vista when available.

Any advice is great. Thanks:)

I chatted with tech support and the tech guy ended up recommending that I change from a VGA connection to a DVI connection. However, this can be costly and am wondering if there is another way. We tried changing the Hertz rate at different resolutions but no change. Do I need a new graphics card by any chance? The PC is about four years old and is 1.3 Ghz with XP Home Edition on it. Tried calling tech support but was put into voicemail that someone would call back within 24 hours. Well no one has of course. So what could be some things to test out or check?

25 harddrives, converted to firewire, installed in server tower,I only will use 2 harddrive at a time (master/slave) so the other 23 will still have the 12v/5v power going to them, but no ground.
tested on a old drive and seams to work good, want to make sure drives will not be harmed before I continue seting up the 25 drives.
going to use in hometheater, switches will be mounted in a case next to coach.

I heard that people can't change or add components to Dell computers without sending it to Dell or something. Is this true? Or can I do things like that myself? If so, would I need components made by Dell? I have a Dell 8300 if that matters.

I have a Packard Bell diamond 1200+ scanner which never worked too well since I got it but I could sort of manage. However I had to reformat and reinstall windows xp, not from the disc that the original operating system was installed from, another CD. I found that the scanner driver cd had gone missing so I tried to download a driver from several websites. Seems to be the same driver each time but just won't install and the PC doesn't recognise it's even got a scanner connected. Anyone any ideas?

I'd like to know how do I safely back up my computer files before I do a factory reset? I have very important files on my computer that I need to save and factory resets involve erasing most or all of the data on your computer. Can anybody tell me how to do this? Thanks for your help.

How do I deactivate safe mode on my computer? All I tried to do yesterday was download some AOL protection for my computer, and it froze, forcing me to perform an improper shut down. When I cut it back on, the computer didn't give me any other options except to cut it on safe mode, which is blocking my programs and everything is twice the size of what it should be. Whenever I do a proper shut down, and I cut my computer back on, it gets frozen on the Windows XP screen, and I have had to do many improper shut downs because of this. My computer has no viruses, I scan for threats everyday, and I have Yahoo! Anti Spy E-Mail protection whic is up to date. Please help me, and don't tell me to get it checked out by a proffesional, because I called the Dell company, and they told me to do a factory reset, which could cause me to lose all of my data. Thank you for all of your help!
