what does RAM do, my mommy friend knows my computer runs slow and says i need 2 buy RAM..........i have 227816 physical memory availible on my computer and about 50,000 and up availible, what is a good amount 2 have.........i have alot of games that take up memory and stuff also (like the sims2)

I want to record HBO and other premium/digital channels on my PC. I have a Hauppauge video capture card.
Can I just connect the S-Video from the set-top box to the s-video on the card? What kind of quality will I get?
I would like to record some shows and movies from HBO (and other channels) and then watch them again on my 42" plasma, using my computer as the recorded, not any other DVR or device.

I just purchased a Rosewill 400 watt dual 12v rail power supply from newegg.com to replace my no-name brand 450watt PS I was using. I have an older AGP system running an athlon xp 2800, one hard drive, one dvd burner, and 3 case fans with a coupe lights on the front and a Gf 6200. My problems is that I am still getting only 11.55 volts on the 12 volt rail like I was with the old generic PS. I am on a budget and I'm trying to stay under $50. Can someone refer me to a brand that is known for having SOLID voltage.

I have a Lexmark X5260 All in one printer. I dont really print photos and currently I have a photo cartridge and a color cartridge. Would I get more prints from a black cartridge or am I still better off with getting another Photo cartridge?

I want to build a high end Laptop, at a respectable price.

WSXGA+ screen or better, Core Duo T2600 or better, 1024 Mb DDR2 667Mhz Ram or better, 512 Video Card or better, Wireless a/b/g + Bluetooth, DVD +/- RW Dual-Layer.

Biometric fingerprint scanner, media card reader and TV Tuner are a plus but not necessary. Screen size can be 14.1-17.1 but must be in widescreen format. I would like to keep the total price under $1700.

This computer looses the hard drive when it reboots. It dosen't happen every time. Hard Drive is thought to be good. Cables are thought to be good. What else should I check.

A friend of mine needs me to help her install a scanner on her computer, but she doesn't have the installation disk that came with the scanner. I am told that you can find the software on the internet. The scanner is a Canon CanoScan D1250U2.
