my d drive doesn't show up when i put in a cd it spins but something's wrong with it sometimes it works but sometime it doesn't how can i fix it

Start by reloading Windows. That's one of the symptoms that Windows XP shows when it needs to be removed and reloaded. Of course, you also might just have an optical drive that's going bad, and needs to be replaced.

Since it work "SOMETIMES" it could be...

1: Need to clean the drive, buy a Disc cleaner at any place that sells electronics. Usually less than $10 bucks.

2: Check the discs that DON'T work to make SURE they are CLEAN and FREE of FINGERPRINTS, DUST, SCRATCHES...

You should clean the CD reader. Try blowing compressed air in there. It's like a bar-code scanner. The plastic surrounding it gets dirty.

Buy a New Drive if that dont work Reinstall Windows!

Check the cables he power might be plugged in but check the data cable.
