Well, memory and disk space is totally different. The processor is measured in megahertz and gigahertz. That is how fast the computer does something. Memory or RAM, is how much memory storage space where the computer puts things while it is doing it. This is not permanent. If a lot of things are going on at the same time then the memory has to choose one thing at a time and will be slower. Disk space is the hard drive where all the programs are saved, like windows, games, downloaded stuff, music... This space is measured in megabytes and gigabytes. Memory is measured the same way for the amount you have. The speed of the memory is measured the same as the processor. So, you might or might not need more memory. You might just need to defragment, or check for adware, or even both. That's a good start. Hope it helps.

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is where the running portion of your operating system and applications reside during execution. If your computer is running Windows XP as its operatings system, I would recommend about 1 GB of RAM. Looks like you may have about 1/4 of that. Generally XP runs reasonably well on 1/2 GB and would struggle on 1/4 GB.
Take your computer to a CompUSA, Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, Electronics Discount Supply, or other store that handles computers and has a service department. Installing memory is not difficult, but you do have to identify the right type for your machine and observe some do's and dont's in its installation.
While memory is a likely suspect for poor performance, there are other possible bottlenecks. Discuss the configuration of your machine with the tech before you upgrade. A well outfitted pig is still a pig. May be time to upgrade your whole machine to get the performance you want and need.

You can get the best prices from www.pricewatch.com. RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and it is where your "temporary" files are stored. An example would be if you have a drawing on your screen that you haven't saved yet, it will be temporarily stored in the RAM memory. So, the more RAM that you have, the more space you will have to store temporary.
Games usually take up a lot of temporary memory because it's not just a drawing, it is many drawings running at once so more RAM will make it run more efficiently.
P.S. 1 Gyga Bite will be awesome but you can live with 512 Mega Bytes.

I dont know where the 227MB came from because computers are sold in 128, 256, 512, 1024, ect. Anyway to me 1GB is the bare minimum to play games. But if you bought your computer with 256 RAM then It might not even support a lot of memory. My advice is to upgrade. I'm not asking to upgrade to the fastest PC ever but something cheap. Also you can buy RAM from almost anywhere. But if you want something reliable and wont crash on you (I learned this the hard way) dont get the cheapest you can find. 1GB cost anywhere from $75 (Cheap and s-l-o-w) to $150 (Expensive and FAST).

physical memory has nothing to do with RAM, it's a virtual memory but from what i gather in your question you don't have much knowledge about pc's so the best way is to take your computer to Best Buy to Geek Squad, they'll look at it and determine what amount of RAM is needed and will install it also. Believe me you don't want to mess with that if you don't know how to do it. Besides there're different RAMs, you need to find out what size is compatible with your pc

First of all you need to know how much capacity your computer will take and how much you currently have....usually computers come with 3 slots....1 for the current RAM the system has and two more additional for adding more RAM. So if you have lets say 256K and want to add more you can get another 256K or 512K or even 1G...but you can buy them anywhere they sell computers some are listed below.
Best Buy
Buy.com
Dell

Ram is used when you open large programs and/or several programs at once. If you have enough 512 mg minimum more RAM will not speed up your computer. Slow boot is usually caused by spyware adware programs. I would suggest you purchase first a good anti-spyware prgram such as Spy Sweeper. Incidently to buy the correct RAM try Crucial.com They will recommend the proper Ram and sell it to you as cheap as anyone.

1) Go to the store Best Buy.
2) Take lots of money because they will rip you off, but you have no other choice, judging by your level of understanding on the topic. No offense.
3) Tell them your computer is slow, to please remove the malware, and upgrade the RAM to 1-Gig.
4) Come back in a few days and pick it up
5) Go home and plug it in
