I bought a display model from compusa and it didn't come with the hard drive brackets. They are white proprietory screwless ones. Does anyone know where I can order them ? Does anyone know of a safe alternate means of mounting a hard drive ? If someone answers this correctly, I'll make yahoo my new primary search engine. :)

I have a pair of dell computers,one being a year older than the other one.not being cheap,well maybe,lol I want to know if I can somehow erase the memory chip in the one and install it in the other.is this possible or do i have to just buy a new memory chip?

I'm writing an article for a big chip vendor on how UMPCs might eventually be used in education. I'm curious if folks think the devices fill a niche that's not already filled by smart phones, i-Pods and laptops. Is the touchscreen a killer app? Or the opportunity for rich media? Or, is this an affordable option that will allow students to consolidate their other mobile computing and communication devices? Let me know if there are any thoughts. I'm especially interested in folks willing to be "on the record." That is, quoted in my article. Thanks. Oh, and deadline is Sept. 4, so I'd need to hear from you soon.

My new HP laptop comes with NO CD's at all. The "Recovery Disk" is a partition of the hard drive. I would like to have an actual copy of the XP Home CD as well as drivers for the HP laptop. How can I get it? Also, how could I possibly rebuild my system if the entire hard drive crashed including the partition with the "Recovery" info?

Hello Everyone,

I am tech and have to manage a butt load of Dell Optiplex workstations (GX1 - GX620). On numerous occasions, I need to run the Dell HD Diagnostics and figure out if the HD is bad. I usually get various DELL return codes but have been unable to locate a document or site that specifies what each return code means. Any help would be appreciated.

My harddrive failed in my laptop a couple days ago, and I am trying decide whether I should get it replaced and fixed for $120 or just buy a new computer now. I was initially planning on buying a new gaming notebook in January anyways. Is Windows Vista worth waiting for or is there any new technology that will come out in January that I should wait on before making a decision as what to do? I have to have something before class starts next month.

I want to put paint and word and a lot of things back onto the stat menu because my desktop is all cluttered with icons. I have fourteen icons on my desktop right now and I want about half of them back on the start menu. I'm trying to redo the way my computer looks and I really need to get rid of the unwanted programs.
Also, when I put the icons on the start menu, can I delete them off my desktop? One time I deleted paint from my dad's old computer and I couldn't get it back. So once they are on the desktop, there's no way they can disappear for lack of use right?
I don't know if this makes sense but can anyone try to help me please?

The IBM laptop has a 2.5gb HD and a 5gb HD, 2 CD rom readers 2x & 12x, floppy drive an xtra battery new w/Targa multi poket case & all driver software plus dock & internet card.Works perfect +Norton virus software,& win 98 software disk,the only thing I dont have is a USB card.I want to put it on e-bay.How much should I start bid or if I put it in paper 4 sale how much.It's a IBM Thinkpad 740EL Mic,headphonejack,all types of searl ports.Mint w/cases for all acessories.Is it even usefull anymore 4 anyone or possably wanted anymore? My Palm conked out on me yesterday as I was making a note, and has reset itself to the point of needing to be reinitialized, like when it was new. Everything I had is gone, and since I hadn't done a HotSynch in a while, I won't be able to get back anything that's new since then. Is there any possibility that the data is still on the handheld and can be restored?

One the IBM T43's has an issue where the mouse radomly starts selecting all the items, as if a shift was held down. This only happens when the laptop is docked. If you press the shift key the problem is resolved. But appears back again randomly.

At first I was thinking that the lid is pressing down on the shift key. But if you keep the lid open the problem still happens.

Any ides what it could be?
