It is a good idea at the same time that it is a bad idea.
Good reasons:
Discharging the battery completely before recharging it can actually extend the life of the battery. Basically, if you keep charging it up before it's discharged, the battery will actually become weaker over time. Same concept as when you buy a new cell phone....
Bad reason:
You might not be able to save any work you were in the middle of. However, most modern operating systems will actually send your computer into standby mode before the battery actually dies, which keep all of your applications open. You can check your power mode in Windows throught the control panel. Adjust your power mode accordingly when you are relying on the battery.

It is a good idea to Completely Discharge and then fully recharge a battery from time to time ( Maybe once a month ) It extends the life of the battery considerably
Many laptops have a program inbuilt that will do it for you whilst you are running on mains power .

batteries are generally lined decrease than guarantee for a era of 6-3 hundred and sixty 5 days. i dont think of previous this, any producer would choose to amplify the guaranty era for a battery. charging the battery and draining it thoroughly is declared as Battery Calibration. each and every so often the battery meter (the battery icon which u discover on the superb hand ingredient backside of the computing device liquid crystal demonstrate, in homestead windows) reflects incorrect analyzing. the meter would desire to coach that there is 30 min cost left interior the battery, however the battery won't final for that long. to circumvent such incorrect battery meter readings, battery calibration is complete. previous this, i dont think of it would be of lots help. although if that's recommended that u carry out battery calibration atleast as quickly as in each and every week.

Actually it is recommended to use your laptop on battery only and let the battery run down once every couple of weeks. It is good for the battery and will extend its life. I

It is a good thing to run your battery right down, if you don't it could gain a memory and not last as long next charge.
It shouldn't cause any problems ,as the computer will shut down and will need to be started from scratch to continue.

Yes, this is actually good for the battery...you should do it every so often or else the battery will develop a "memory" and will decrease in performance over time.
