how do i get messages off of my desk top that are there when i turn my computer on.?

Go to Start-->Run and type msconfig and press enter. Go to the startup tab and uncheck anything you don't have installed or don't want. Also, run CCleaner and scan for issues in the Registry...it will clean up your Registry and remove any obsolete and incorrect entries.
