One the IBM T43's has an issue where the mouse radomly starts selecting all the items, as if a shift was held down. This only happens when the laptop is docked. If you press the shift key the problem is resolved. But appears back again randomly.

At first I was thinking that the lid is pressing down on the shift key. But if you keep the lid open the problem still happens.

Any ides what it could be?

Could be a problem with the acual pressure plate that detects when you push down the shift keep. Something may have jammed it or even corroded it into thinking it's pressed down.

Sounds like the keyboard attached to your docking station ma be the culprate. Try swapping it with another.
As for cheching the laptop out.
First check the 'Caps Lock' key. Also look closely to see if a foreign object like a paperclip got under the key buttons. If so use extreme care in removing it, as you cam pull off keys that can't be reinstalled, or damage the membrane switch below them. Check to make sure the laptops keyboard is seated. gently press the corners. you shouldn't get much give. If you get what you think is excessive give look underneeth the laptop ant see if a keyboard hold down screw came loose or droped out.
NOET: Only use the correct screws if you replace one. They are very uniue and vary in length. Order from IBM if need be.
