My Palm conked out on me yesterday as I was making a note, and has reset itself to the point of needing to be reinitialized, like when it was new. Everything I had is gone, and since I hadn't done a HotSynch in a while, I won't be able to get back anything that's new since then. Is there any possibility that the data is still on the handheld and can be restored?

Yes your data is probably still on the system. Try the yellow pages for data recovery or computer forensics. I am a forensics examiner and anyone with that expertise can either do the work, if they have the right software(I don't) or should be able to point you towards someone who does. By the way don't turn the system on until you're satisfied you have to reinitialize; each time the system is used or even just turned on some data is lost.
