If you think that you would be sitting near the power plug for a long time then its advisable to keep it plugged in and remove the batterry (if its fully charged).

You can leave it plugged in all the time, however, most manufacturers recommend in the user guide that you run the batteries way down (5% or less) at least once a month.
This allows the battery to use the charging cycle and keep it fresh.

Lap top batteries are only good for about a years worth of use. If you are keeping it pluged in 24/7, remove the battery and only recharge it once a month or so. If you don't use it, it's not going to hold a charge for too long after about a year.

I just got a new laptop. the guys at the store said if youre going to run it mostly on home AC power, then take the battery out after its charged up.
for one it protects against power surges. i forgot the main reason though.
think i will take mine back out, ive been leaving it in and im always plugged in.
