On a standard Mobo, you can get up to 4 HDD if you don't need a CDROM/DVD drive. You can augment that with a promise card and put up to four additional drives on that. If your motherboard has the option of RAID 0/1/0+1, you can put four drives on that. If you have SATA connections, you can have up to 6 drives depending on the manufacturer. If you have SCSI card, you can chain up to 127 Drives.

My new motherboard can control a maximum of 12 internal drives. 8 SATA and 4 UDMA. My last motherboard could have a maximum of 8 internal, 4 SATA, and 4 UDMA. And any motherboard with USB 2.0 can have up to 127 external drives, though if you had that many, they'd be about as fast as floppy drives!

i have four, i have 2 double serial cords, but if you get usb you can hook up more, then if you get a usb spitter you can add even. but be carful, it kills your processor speed when it has to access all though drives, itll be better to get a hugh drive like 250gb. and you have more maintenance to maintain on all thoughs drives.
