FYI: Clean Install is when I bring computer back to manufacturer specs due to either errors I make in DL'g something and want a clean registry; or an error in the programs that Microsoft recommends a clean install; i.e., a corruption in a program or something like that! Whenever I do this, ALL Yahoo Group mails cease to arrive - even though I've checked edit membership, and everything is a-ok and all names are back in My Contacts for ID'ing as not being spam or other junk! PLEASE HELP ME!

and plugged it in..and moved the computer while its on to its table. this caused some hardware pbm. becos of which i cant hear the sound?

I have a Sony Vaio (PCG-GRZ610) that worked just fine yesterday. Today when I goes to turn it on, nothing happens. The screen is black, I can hear the fan running, but nothing else. When I press the power button both battery indicator lights flash but that is all. I don't know if the system board is dead or what. As of now alls I get is a green "power on" indicator light, and flashing battery lights if whenever I press the power key. Again, I can hear the fan running but that's it. Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

i have a no name cpu, and both a lexmark and an epson printer. both work through usb cables, but even though i use the usb with sandisk and my palm, the cpu will not recognize the printers. what other options do i have? i sat with lexmark for over three hours this week trying to get it to work, and nothing. i have had this computer for two years, but never hooked up a printer to it. it uses windows xp.

Heres what I want it to have, the other stuff doesnt matter. I want it to have 2 pci-e x16, 3 or more Pci slots, 4 or 6 ram slots, Socket 775 pentium 4 or pentium D. Anything else doesnt matter. I found one, but its an AMD motherboard, but I cant find one for a pentium. Can someone tell me where to find one, or the name and model number of the motherboard(s)?

I have turned the contrast and brightness up as far as they will go, but it just keeps getting darker. I can see in Word and Excel and this webside, but most websites look like someone is writing in black ink on a dark color, such as dark gray, dark red, dark purple. In order to read them, I have to copy the material and paste it to Microsoft Word. Can this be fixed or do I need a new monitor? If so, what kind? I have a Dell computer circa 2000 with Windows melinium edition.

Serious question, although I know I'll get a lot of bull$h!t answers...hoping to get a good one in there, somewhere.

I have a computer with an early P4 and it didn't come with USB 2.0. It's a very small computer and has no expansion slots for PCI cards...so I can't add USB 2.0 or FireWire. I don't really need this computer to burn DVDs, but I have an extra 2.4x burner that was removed from another computer I was upgrading. I have installed the old drive in an external enclosure that I had lying around and have not yet tried burning a DVD on it.

Anyone here ever burned DVDs on USB 1.1?

My computer screen is very dim, the color is not bright, especially when I have darker colors on the screen. I believe that something happened to it while I was at work, due to lightning or bad weather. Can anyone tell me step by step how to fix it? It is a Gateway EV700 model and is about 5 years old. Please keep in mind that I am not very experienced with computers, so patience and details are required! Thanks to whoever can help me!

It's between two. the apple mac (the white one, 1GB ram, 80 GB hard drive) OR the sony VAIO, (FJ series, the sky blue one) So which one do you think i should get? It's both printers, so it's not a printer problem. When my laser is hooked up it often causes a restart, whereas not so much with the deskjet.

I have two documents on a floppy disk, one works and one doesn't. I haven't done anything different with the two documents. When I click on the one that doesn't work, the disk drive makes a weird noise but won't go to it. Can anyone help me with this?

an easy question if you know it
the second function on my laptop, "Fn" works sometimes, but not always. I constantly use this function for volume, and sometimes it stops working-
I assume I inadvertantly pressed a "lock" of some sort, but i've tried every combination to release it, with no luck. How do I get it working again??

It was working fine last night, although I've noticed for a while that a light in the front under what looks like a battery icon keeps staying on. This morning when I turned on the computer, that light came on again and the fan started running, but nothing else happened. Now when I try, even that light is out and the fan doesn't come on; tower is completely dead. Monitor and speakers are plugged into the same power strip and turn on just fine. Haven't had any electrical storms or power outages. There is no reset button on the computer. Has my power supply died, or are there things I can try before assuming that?
