My computer screen is very dim, the color is not bright, especially when I have darker colors on the screen. I believe that something happened to it while I was at work, due to lightning or bad weather. Can anyone tell me step by step how to fix it? It is a Gateway EV700 model and is about 5 years old. Please keep in mind that I am not very experienced with computers, so patience and details are required! Thanks to whoever can help me!

If you have already messed with the brightness and contrast control adjusted by that big knob on the front, then you probably have to replace the monitor, they just get dim after a while and there is little you can do about it.

It sounds like you need a new monitor. You say it's 5 years old? Then it's probably out of warranty. I assume, at this point, that you've checked all connections & adjusted the settings (such as brightness & contrast). On the older models, at least, these are much like the controls on your TV. I couldn't say for certain without actually seeing it. I'm not exactly an expert myself & I'm not familiar with that model. So, before you trash it, you should have it tested by a PC repairman.

I dont know this particular model of monitor but most have a series of buttons or switches at the front somewhere to adjust colour/contrast/brightness etc
If they don't work you will probably need a new monitor.

There should be a button on your monitor that you can press where you then can make changes to your screen preferences like contrast and brightness.

hi, First do away with the case element and start up the laptop. Open a pair of applications then learn contained interior the laptop visually, you go with for to paintings out if something is touching the cpu fan or case fan. in the event that they are ok, then heavily using a splash bit skinny timber, located the timber onto a non electric powered section this manner of the edge of a fan housing and located distinctive finally finally end up on your ear. i comprehend it sounds daft yet which will isolate and strengthen and sound in that section. flow around contained interior the laptop till finally you're able to come around the noise, back I stress in simple terms touch non digital factors. I used to try this with motor vehicle engines whilst attempting to discover a noise! distinctive determination is to close down the laptop and do away with the flexibility cables for non needed themes which incorporates cd rom's and word if that makes a distinction. i might aso make helpful that any case filters are clean and learn each and every and all of the fan blades for an accumulation of airborne dirt and airborne dirt and mud and airborne dirt and airborne dirt and mud, in simple terms clean them heavily with a cotton bud and a low skill vac yet be careful as vac's can strengthen static so use an earthing wrist strap around the nozzle regarding a sturdy earth, which incorporates a radiator pipe. while in order to adjust the brightness you need to go to the menu button on your monitor and press it, then go to brightness and click on it, then raise the brightness on your monitor. It's just like a T.V.'s menu.
But if your saying that theres lines going through the image then it might be your graphics card, aka video card. Or it might just be your monitor

This is a rather simple solution. Your monitor has lived out a full life and is dying. You need to buy another one. There are no serviceable parts inside a CRT monitor. Once it goes, it's gone. THANKS!!
