Serious question, although I know I'll get a lot of bull$h!t answers...hoping to get a good one in there, somewhere.

I have a computer with an early P4 and it didn't come with USB 2.0. It's a very small computer and has no expansion slots for PCI cards...so I can't add USB 2.0 or FireWire. I don't really need this computer to burn DVDs, but I have an extra 2.4x burner that was removed from another computer I was upgrading. I have installed the old drive in an external enclosure that I had lying around and have not yet tried burning a DVD on it.

Anyone here ever burned DVDs on USB 1.1?

I am going to try it. The burner is old. I've had it since back when 2.4x was the fastest on the market. I'm just interested in other people's experiences so I'll know whether I should be surprised when it does or doesn't work.

As for it being painfully slow...I agree...I've done the math. I think it would take one hour to burn 4.7GB.

Sure. I've burned from an external that's connected via a USB 1.1 slot. It's a bit slower, but it'll work.

You simply have to TRY IT.

If you did not BUY the burner yet, ask them what the RETURN policy is. STAPLES does not give you a hassle. Costco is also hassle free.
