I have just set up a Belkin wirless network which is working fine. My Desktop is the wired pc and my wife has a compaq presario that connects via wireless.

Every time I try to enable the security the laptop states that the network settings are not compatible with this machine.

This is so frustrating, I have even restored factory settings and began all over, but still no luck.

The manual is not very helpful, can anyone help please.

Both are using Windows XP S2. One is about five years old and I just got the other one for Christmas. The older one has cable internet right now. I have a cable modem sitting next to my keyboard. It has a cable coax wire going into that, then it has another cord coming out of it and into the back of my computer. That cord looks kind of like a large phone line. Could I just buy another one of these cable modems and hook it up to my new PC and use the internet on both computers like that? Or would I have to buy a crossover cable? If I have to use that cross over cable thing how long are they? Because one computer is in one room the other is in a room on the other side of the house.

i currently have my computer connected to virgin broadband 20mb package. the modem plugs into the computer through the network rj45 connector. i am thinking of getting a 2nd broadband connection, this time from o2, and their modem is wireless. i already have a 2nd network card that i installed which is wireless and not currently used. if i get the 2nd broadband connection (which is 16mb) and use the windows xp 'bridge network connections' option, will this combine both connections to create a 36mb broadband speed? thanks for any replies...

I have a second computer I'm connecting to my Comcast cable modem and the router has worked fine so far. My computer says that there is a connection there at 400 Mbps and everything should check out but when I go in my browser nothing works.

I just got PS3 (yay!) It's too far from my computer to run an ethernet line, so I have to go with a wireless connection. I just bought the Linksys WRT54G wireless router.

I went with the PS3 automatic setup route. I was able to download the update and establish an online account, but I keep timing out when I am trying to update my Call of Duty 4 game. It gets to 22% then freezes.

I have Windows Vista which came installed with Norton. Occasionally I am notified Norton blocked an attack from my very own computer. This leads me to believe Norton is blocking the router. Any ideas?

Really strange....I'm thinking it might be the NIC card itself, but what say you?

Okay, at work we have 4 computers all connected to the internet wired through a linksys router....yesterday, everything was fine, today not so much. The computer which stores and shares all our vital information is not connecting to the internet, therefore, we can't access that computer to get at our files and such. I tried uninstalling the driver for the network adapter and reboot, nothing. If I click 'Repair' it tells me 'failed to query TCP/IP setting of the connection.' All the other computers connect to the internet just fine, this one doesn't....if I hit 'Details' to see the IP address, it doesn't show ANYTHING. Everything is blank. Another thing it started doing is when I boot up the machine, move the cursor down to the taskbar, it'll have an hourglass for a good five minutes before I can do anything....not sure if that has anything to do with the internet problem but.....anyone help me out?

Hi, recently it has become apparent that the number of wireless devices is overwhelming my current wireless router (DGL-4300 Wireless 108G Gaming Router) (it even may have fried it) and I was looking to install a new network setup. Currently I have 3 wired computers (likely to add 2-3 more wired devices) and around 6-8 wireless devices. Given this I think I need to go with a switch and a high end wireless router. I'm okay picking out a switch but my question was what should I be looking at to support both gigabit ethernet and that number of wireless devices?

My wireless in my house has been dropping as frequent as every 10 minutes. The only way I can reconnect is to unplug my router and plug it back in.

My router says "smurf attack detect" and "packet dropped" if that has anything to do with it. I have no idea what that even means.

What can I do? I need it in the plainest terms... I don't really know much about computers and routers.

The host pc runs on Windows XP home, the latop runs on Vista home premium. Uses a Belkin wirless router, followed setup instructions and all worked fine for a few months. The weird thing is, I can still send and receive emails and still download songs from Limewire but internet won't open - don't even get a blank web page. A dialogue box opens up with 'DNSerror' do you want to 'find', 'save' 'cancel' this file. I'm not ashamed to admit that it's driving me bonkers - I'm no computer genius, but I won't let this defeat me! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
