I have just set up a Belkin wirless network which is working fine. My Desktop is the wired pc and my wife has a compaq presario that connects via wireless.

Every time I try to enable the security the laptop states that the network settings are not compatible with this machine.

This is so frustrating, I have even restored factory settings and began all over, but still no luck.

The manual is not very helpful, can anyone help please.

Call Belkin's Tech support staff. That's what they do.

In your browser open the Belkin configuration page 192.168.0.1 or something similar ...it will tell you in the booklet the Admin user name will be admin and the pawword usually password or admin again it will tell you in the booklet.... go to wireless settings and enable security choose the security level you want and either enter a passphrase (password) or if you let it set automatically WRITE DOWN THE 45 DIGIT NUMBER you'll need it to access the wirless network

Through the desktop(connected to the router by LAN) you have to connect to the router
192.168.0.1 or whatever IP the router has (not sure on Belkin)
and change your wireless security settings on there.

If that doesn't work you could always call Belkin. They will help you set up your router step by step.
