From what you imply but did not state, you have a wireless access point and router (perhaps as 2 discrete devices or as one integrated device).
Apparently you succeeded in connecting and configuring the wireless lap top to function.
Procure a wireless network interface card and install it in the desk top. You will need to configure it just like you configured the notebook and then you are in business. Be sure to do all of the requried config steps.
In the initial set up and testing have the desk top in the same room as the wireless access point and configure router / access point using the notebook with a WIRED link to the router. Never configure a wireless router / access point via wireless link.
Once the desk top connects to internet when in same room as router you have the right configuration. Now move it to the bed room and see if it works. If it does not work, you may be too distant from access point OR there is a signal blockage. Wireless will NOT go through masonry, metal, heavy walls, duct work etc - and this can be a problem.

assuming you connect your laptop to a wireless router. You can do the same for your desktop (dos'nt matter what version of windows you use). All you do is connect a wireless (wi-fi) card to your desktop. You can get a wifi usb dongle (nice and easy to setup, but you may have signal strength issues). or install a wifi card inside your desktop (a bit better for signal and you can attach antena extentions.

your desktop needs a wireless adpater if it's not going to be close to the modem and router.
if it's in the same room as the router, hard wire it to the router and you can connect by wireless to the laptop if you wish.

You can buy a wireless PCI card for your desktop PC that will allow it to connect to the wireless network. I would suggest ebuyer.com for cheap computer parts.
