I have a desktop, my laptop, and my roommates laptop all hooked up to the same router. How do I create a common shared folder on the hard drive of the desktop, so it is accessible to both laptops? Meaning both laptops should have read and write rights to the folder on the desktop, and the desktop has read and write rights to the folder that is being shared, but not access to any folders on the laptops?? I am using windows XP on the desktop, and one laptop. The other laptop has windows vista.

Thanks!

Alright so I found this wireless router at good will and purchased it. I was wondering if I used it, the previous user could somehow figure out I was using it and find out my identity?

We have everything through our cable company and one computer with a modem in one room right now. We now have 2 computers and want the one in living room on-line. Our modem is not wireless like we thought it was. Cable company now says we need a router.....we have this adapter (small little box with an antenna that is supposed to read the wireless modem - or so I thought). What is the difference between router and modem? Do you have to have the modem if you have a router? Can't you get a wireless modem as opposed to a router? Do I have to have the modem AND the router? HELP???? Laymans terms please -- thanks

I need to know why we require two conductors in a twisted pair cable...
If one is for transmission and other for reception, how come a single copper wire in coaxial cable does both the operations...?

Assume that hosts A and B have a TCP connection established. Assume that the two hosts are separated by one router (i.e. they are one hop apart). Why does host A not directly use the MAC (LAN) address of host B when constructing its packets to send to host B?

Recently, my internet modem has been disconnecting on me a lot. I leave it on the floor cause thats how far the wire reaches and when I come close to it, all the lights will go out and come back on after a minute. Then when I leave, the lights will go out again and this time stay like that unless I bring my feet within a foot of the modem. It's so freaky. and please no stupid answers

I currently got another DSL modem from my ISP and I am on a 3 mbps down and a 1 mbps up DSL connection and my DSL modem seems to loose speed the longer it is on, about every week I have to reboot it, then after it restarts I have my full speed again, so I really think it is the modem. I also have a problem sometimes with a program that uses allot of connection threads like P2P, sometimes my DSL modem will just freeze and I have to restart it to get back online. It also has nothing to do with my router, I will check and I will still have a steady ping to my router and full connection to it, so I was wondering if anybody knows what is a good DSL modem that maybe will resolve this issue I am having. I would also like a feature that let's me access the DSL modem local to be able to do restarts on it.
