hit windows key and "R"
brings up Run box
type CMD click ok
type PING then IP or DomainName
ie. Ping 192.168.1.1
ie. Ping www.yahoo.com

Click on the 'start' button on the bottom left side of the screen, click 'run' and then type in 'cmd' (or 'command' in Windows 98) and press Enter. When the black screen appears, type in 'ping (ip address)'.

For example: ping 192.168.1.1
