This really is more than 1 question. I have a dell inspiron 2650 that runs XP. I use a netgear "add on" wireless card with a netgear adapter. I have seen ads for an AT&T mobile wireless connecter card that says you can use it almost anywhere. Are there different signal strengths in different brands of these? & Do you really have to have more than 1 computer to use an at home wifi connection?? I kinda want to sell my old desktop since my wifi is down anyway, & am just wondering if should keep it instead in the hopes of using my wifi again. The netgear signal seems to be a weak 1 since I know my neighbor has wifi also, & I can't "borrow" it due to a weak signal. Plz advise?

I just did a connection speed test on speedtest.net. My computer's results came back with about 4000 kb/s download through a wireless adapter, but my dad's which is directly hooked up to the router came back at about 17000 kb/s. Is there any reason why my speed is so much slower and what can I do to get it closer to his?

I'm not TOTALLY clueless, but some of the stuff I read trying to find a direct answer gives me hives.

I just got a laptop with vista-boy does it suck-but my desktop operates on xp. I have a program on my desktop for my wireless (satellite) provider, and all of the settings are simple. Before I screw something up, lol....
will this network work with two different operating systems? All I really want to do is to be able to use my internet on the laptop, I don't need to share any other files-will I have to manually go in and configure all of the tcp/ip stuff or will it automatically detect due to the network?

Basically, I guess what I'm asking is will my laptop just borrow a wireless connection from my desktop, or will I have to configure it all seperately?

Would gladly accept any helpful info from those far more knowledgeable than myself!

I would like a new wireless router that is easy (extremely easy) to set up and run, doesn't freeze all the time, works well, and a decent price. I'm leaning towards linksys--my mom has one and has been happy with it. Any opinions??

I know that when my laptop is connected to the internet, the wireless light is on and blinking. After I turn it off, it used to stay on for a couple of minutes, then turn off. However, yesterday night, my laptop wasn't on at all, but I looked, and the wireless light on my router was on. Does that mean somebody's leeching off of my connection? Or was it maybe because my laptop was downloading updates or something, even when it was off?

I am trying to configure our office lan. There is no info on the switch itself, and I can't find anything on or in the box, but I know there must be a way by doing something like a netstat from a connected computer. I only have access to macs, so windows utilities and 3coms setup won't work. Surely there's a command line interface?

I've set-up my Linksys (WRT55AG) on my PC, but I can't get a wireless connectiong with my labtop. The laptop reconizes the router, but I can not connect.

This has become soooo frustrating. Any pointers?? The Geek Squad want's to charge me $200 for a house call/set-up. I know I'm half way there, but don't know what I'm missing.

Router: Linksys, PC: Dell, and Laptop: HP
