I know that when my laptop is connected to the internet, the wireless light is on and blinking. After I turn it off, it used to stay on for a couple of minutes, then turn off. However, yesterday night, my laptop wasn't on at all, but I looked, and the wireless light on my router was on. Does that mean somebody's leeching off of my connection? Or was it maybe because my laptop was downloading updates or something, even when it was off?

I set up a new encryption WEP code. Is that good, or are there any other security measures I should take?

The wireless light indicates that the router is operating in wireless mode (receiving wireless signals). If you don't have your router locked with a security key then yes, someone is probably leeching you too.

Just stick to the encryption, this is good enough security. The light will flash when the router sees any other wireless signal, including those not related to your network. One of the reasons is that if refuses connections to any stray wireless card that contacts it.

WEP is the McDonalds version of encryption. Use WPA2 or WPA. WEP is very weak. WPA2 is strongest, WPA is the middle grade. Every device on your wireless LAN has to be able to use WPA2 to enable WPA2 typically. My wireless router let's me select a setting for a combination of WPA AND WPA2.

It's certainly possible. You should be able to connect to your router with a web browser and see all connected devices. Check your manual for details.
