I've set-up my Linksys (WRT55AG) on my PC, but I can't get a wireless connectiong with my labtop. The laptop reconizes the router, but I can not connect.

This has become soooo frustrating. Any pointers?? The Geek Squad want's to charge me $200 for a house call/set-up. I know I'm half way there, but don't know what I'm missing.

Router: Linksys, PC: Dell, and Laptop: HP

Help!!

Yes I have a key -- the network is WEP.

I tried the run command and the message I got was: "no operation can be performed on Wireless network Connection while it has its media disconnected"

I'll start over again tomorrow :-( this is very frustrating.

Thanks for the reply

So as I understand it, the Internet works on your desktop, and in the Wireless Connections Window you can see your router listed as an available wireless network. Right?

Did you setup Wireless Security on your router? If you did, did you use WPA or WEP? If you used WPA, it is possible that your Wireless Adapter on your laptop does not support WPA (depending on the age of laptop/ version of firmware for adapter). So, try switching to WEP, or temporarily disabling security.

If this is not the issue, you may want to try this:

Unplug your router. On your laptop, click start > run > type: CMD > The command window willopen > at the prompt type "ipconfig /release" (without the " ") > hit enter > close the command window.

Shut your laptop down. Plug router back in a wait about 30-seconds until it as reset/re-established connection. Then turn your laptop on within close proximity to the router (may as well make sure it's not a out-of-range issue).

Unfortunately with WiFi there are so many potential possibilities. I hope this helps you. Please do not call GeekSquad and waste your money- I'm sure you can get this on your own.
