I have a desktop, my laptop, and my roommates laptop all hooked up to the same router. How do I create a common shared folder on the hard drive of the desktop, so it is accessible to both laptops? Meaning both laptops should have read and write rights to the folder on the desktop, and the desktop has read and write rights to the folder that is being shared, but not access to any folders on the laptops?? I am using windows XP on the desktop, and one laptop. The other laptop has windows vista.

Thanks!

You need to setup a shared folder on one of the computers and then point the other one to that shared folder.

On one computer, make a folder...right click it and select "Sharing" ...enable sharing and give write rights.

On the other computer, locate the first computer (via Network Neighborhood or \\computer name) and add the folder to your computer

am writing this thinking that you already know how to create a LAN. so first of all you can connect all your computers via LAN and then the host computer can get connected to another network as a client and thus showing all your files also as being shared
