I know that is the idea, but I am running one computer with XP Pro and the other is an I-Mac with OS X Tiger.

E-Bay the Mac? Why would I do that? I have had it 7 years, it is fast, reliable, never had a virus, never had a "blue screen." Has outlasted 1 Dell and one HP. E-Bay the Mac? Not likely.

yes.

what kinda of modem?
1) broadband modem this will work.

2) dialup modem host internet connection sharing on xp pro machine. you will have to set a static IP on the Mac or any other computer you wish to use. in the static don't list the router as the default gate... use the XP with the dial up modem as the gate.

You can do that no problem as long as you have enough ports an cable to connect to the router with. Ethernet is a networking standard and universal between manufacturers, making it a transparent operation.

If the router has a built in switch or hub, you can, otherwise you'd need to get a switch or a hub to hook both computers into the router.

edit: The above only applies if you're using a cable or dsl modem. i.e. a modem that would connect to your computer through a network adapter.
