Nice choice -- Generally you'll find you only have the 8Mbps but you may hit 10Mbps or so when the network is not congested (for brief periods of time). 768Kbps is sucky slow, but way better than the usual

For those asking, PowerBoost is just a free service Comcast offers where you can get an increased burst of download bandwidth for short periods of time (say the first 10 seconds of a download) so if your file is small you'll have it pretty quick. If its not small, you'll get the first 10 seconds fast and then get the rest at your subscribed rate.

Recently I switched from Comcast to Verizon Fios -- I'm very pleased with 30Mbps download / 3 Mbps upload for $35/month -- see if its available where you live. I recommend it.

I don't know what powerboost does, but I can tell you what kind of megabyte transfer you will see when downloading programs:

8,000,000 bits (8 megabits) / 8 (8 bits in a byte) = 1 megabyte per second under ideal conditions. Believe me, it'll be fast, but a lot of connections are also dependant on scenarios such as location, network traffic, equipment involved as the download traverses the Internet, and so on.
