I currently got another DSL modem from my ISP and I am on a 3 mbps down and a 1 mbps up DSL connection and my DSL modem seems to loose speed the longer it is on, about every week I have to reboot it, then after it restarts I have my full speed again, so I really think it is the modem. I also have a problem sometimes with a program that uses allot of connection threads like P2P, sometimes my DSL modem will just freeze and I have to restart it to get back online. It also has nothing to do with my router, I will check and I will still have a steady ping to my router and full connection to it, so I was wondering if anybody knows what is a good DSL modem that maybe will resolve this issue I am having. I would also like a feature that let's me access the DSL modem local to be able to do restarts on it.

Troubleshoot with the ISP and ask to swap out the DSL modem & cables. If it's still having problems, call them back. It could be a line issue that needs repair.

My parents use DSL -- their connection is only 760k/760k (no other ISPs in the area to compete) Anyways, I noticed they had similar problems -- I thought it was the DSL modem, but it actually turned out to be the Linksys router. Once I replaced the router, it now no longer loses connectivity. Before replacing the router, I wrote a program that automatically reboots the DSL modem after Internet connectivity is lost -- however in order to use this, you need to buy a $30 device that interfaces with your PC parallel or USB port.

If you're doing P2P, then you are probably seeing a huge number of connections trying to be made to your computer from other P2P users.. This increases the longer that you're on that particular IP address. When you reset your modem, you are probably getting a new IP address that hasn't been used for P2P activities. As soon as you start your P2P, then the process starts all over again.

Try switching to private P2P networks that have a smaller number of users, but users with excellent upload speeds.

DSL is flawed by design, if cable is available go with that instead. It could be a bad line filter, start there.
