I have been using a wireless router (Linksys) for ages without a hitch. Suddenly my pc has no wireless assistant and will not pick it up. The lights r flashing and repair says my wireless is turned off but i cant turn it on. Any ideas?

Hi

I am planning to buy a wireless router, but am a bit unclear on one thing. Does the router need to be connected to a machine permanently i.e. is it mandatory to have the router always connected to one of the laptops/desktops physically (with the cable) all the time & only other devices excluding the primary laptop / desktop can surf wirelessly.

As I have only one laptop and I plan to surf web anywhere from in my home, if a primary laptop needs to be connected all the time to the router using a cable, it defeats the whole purpose of buying a wifi router. One of my friends has got a Belkin Router recently and it can connect to 4 other connections provided one of the computers is permanently plugged on to it.
If you are aware which router model will give me the functionality which I require (router throwing wifi signal without having been attached permanently to one computer) please let me know.

I have a Belkin Wireless G router- 2.4Ghz -802.11g. Right now I have WPA security, i think the best. I want to change it to WEP because I want to play the nintendo ds, the ds does not support WPA. So how do I change it. I tried putting the cd and changing it but I couldnt do it. Then I found out you type in something in your url on your browser and it shows the menu where you can change stuff. And I select security and change to WEP but it says enter a passphrase and hex key, so I dont think that was right. So how do I change it? I would also want a password for this setting also. Thanks

I have a gateway desktop computer with dsl (from phone company). I have a linksys router. I have a new HP laptop that automatically searches out the wireless system in my home. I am getting a new xbox 360. I need to network my laptop(so I can send email and use my printer from my laptop) and my xbox (so I can go online to play games and such). I am a clueless techie - can someone tell me in SIMPLE terms how to do this??? Thanks in advance.

I can connect to any unsecured network, but when it says computer to computer, I cannot. It says Free Public Wifi but it is unable to aquire a network address. I have tried in several different places. This is not at places like the airport where you have to pay. When you connect at the airport you can at least pull up the screen that offers to sell you the service.

Why can't I connect to Free Public WiFi on my laptop? I know I am not the only person with this problem. When answering, please keep in mind the only time I cannot connect to an unsecured network is when it says "computer to computer"

I have a network of 4 PC's which are all taking up the ports in my DSL router/Modem, I have 2 other PC's I'd like to hook into it also. I had two DSL modems so I connected one modem to the other modem and configured it to find the WAN through the ethernet port rather than the DSL ATM port. It works for Internet connectivity, however, the PC's on the second modem cannot share files, they can see each other when I search PC's but they cannot share files. I only did this because I am low on cash, where can I find a really really cheap network switch? By cheap I mean $15 max, shipping included.

I am trying to set up a wirelss access point because the distance between router and DVR is around 25'. This seems to be too far for PS2 (not DVR however). If I ran an ethernet cable along ceiling it would have to be much longer than 25'. This is ideal for me, but I'm afraid that length of cable is too long hence putting a WAP somewhere in the middle.

Any thoughts? Long ethernet (40ish feet perhaps) or WAP in the middle (using ehternet cable, not wireless G. Only my wiii uses wireless and its fine). Maybe some type of ping test between router and laptop with long ehternet cable?

I'm using windows XP on both comps,I have them connected with the cable between the 2 network cards but when i run network setup wizzard its says wizzard found disconnected hardware on both systems,i have both cards perfectly inserted into the computer,remember i just wanna share and transfer files between these pc's,please help me

What I am looking for is a VPN software or appliance that operates in a similar fashion to gotomypc or other similar remote access programs. I have many clients that it would be very useful for me to establish a VPN with. The problem is that they don't maintain their own router/firewall and the company that does maintain them will not allow ports to be forward and will not support VPN unless you pay them a hefty monthly fee to do so. So I am wondering if anyone knows of anything that can be installed on the remote network and could "call out" to my local network and in a sense establish a reverse VPN tunnel?

I'm sure I'm missing something very basic, so please excuse my ignorance but my dilema is this: I have a dlink DI-524 router that I want to use to feed the internet to three computers. My current configuration is cable modem>router>SunRocket gizmo. I thought it would be as easy as plugging a Cat5 cable into the back of my router ports and plugging the other end into ethernet card on the back of Mac, but so far the only way I can get the internet over to the Mac is to directly plug it into the back of the cable modem. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance for any help someone can offer.

I'm troubleshooting a connectivity issue - the subnet mask assigned by my Internet service to my wireless router is different than the subnet mask assigned to my computers by the router. Does this have to be the same to be able to connect to the Internet? Currently, I have no connectivity from the computers, but can ping sites from the router...

I have a cable modem that is connected to a Linksys wireless router. The router is connected by a cable to one computer and is connected wirelessly to a second computer. It seems like every year or so, the wireless computer won't
be able to access the internet, but the other computer still will. Someone from a computer shop will come do something to some settings and then it will work again. I think this might have something to do with resetting some sort of key. Does anyone know what might be happening?

I am thinking about purchasing an adapter for a router that i already have. My router is 54Mbps and the adapter i want is a maximum transfer rate of 11Mbps. They are both 2.4 GHz (whatever that means) and both Linksys. Also is there anything else i should consider when wondering if they will be compatible...for instance the router says "WLan" will that change something

My internet is with sbc. I have a dsl conncetion. It connects at 100mbps. I have this game called guild wars. Well my wife likes it. So in order for her to play it with me, we got her a nice laptop. Now i had to go to the store and get a router so she could get connected to the internet.. I got a belken54g router its 2.4 ghz. Here is my problem. Ever since i hooked it up my pc and her laptop lagg a lot while playing the game. Should i get a better one or would upgraded my dsl connection to a higher one solve the problem.
