I have a gateway desktop computer with dsl (from phone company). I have a linksys router. I have a new HP laptop that automatically searches out the wireless system in my home. I am getting a new xbox 360. I need to network my laptop(so I can send email and use my printer from my laptop) and my xbox (so I can go online to play games and such). I am a clueless techie - can someone tell me in SIMPLE terms how to do this??? Thanks in advance.

An ADDED NOTE! - My router is in one room connected to my desktop - and my laptop and xbox are in another room!

The linksys router is the wireless router? It should have 4 Ethernet ports on it + an uplink port for the DSL modem + wireless antenna - correct?

The DSL modem "lan" port connects to the Linksys router "wan" port.

The desktop computer Ethernet port connects to one of the lan ports on the Linksys router. Assuming your xbox is wired, it will connect to one of the other lan ports on the linksys router.

Your printer is connected via USB to your desktop computer and you turn on printer sharing on the desktop.

You need to configure a windows home network on both the desktop and the laptop so they see each other via my network places.

Once you get the laptop and desktop talking to each other, turn on security on the wireless router and the laptop. That way nobody can break into your network.

On the router you need to be sure the firewall is enabled & DHCP is enabled. Your PC and laptop need to be configure (network properties) to get their IP address dynamically.

Go to the linksys web site, they have step by step tutorials with pictures on how do this.

Ok, connect the Desktop and the Xbox 360 to the linksys router with ethernet cables. Make sure the printer is either a network enabled printer or is connected to the desktop and then setup as shared.
If the laptop is picking up wireless is it coming from the Linksys? If it is then add a new printer on the laptop and select "Network printer" it should detect the shared printer.
That's it in theory. there's other possibilities that may cause things not to work as simply such as the router not being setup to use dhcp, then you would need to assign network addresses to each machine.

Depends on the linksys router. Most decent ones have 4 ports or so from the back. The wireless devices connect automagically to the wireless, and the hardwired plug into the back of the router.

Just 'share' the printer, from wherever it's attached, and then 'browse the network' to find it and add it to your printers/control panel.

Well it sounds like you already have a router running. All you have to do is connect the xbox to it. You would just plug it in to one of the ethernet ports on the router. There are usually 4 and it sounds like you are only using one.
