I work at a Help Desk with 200 computers. We connect to computers all over the building from our desk all the time. It is easy once they are all networked together.

1. Connect the computers together with a router. You can get a pretty good Linksys one for about $89.00. Most of them come with wireless and wired options. Make sure not to go "cheap" on this purchase.

2. Give each computer a name. Right-click on My Computer>Properties>Computer Name tab. Then reboot.

3. Sit at the computer you want to work from. Go to Start>Run and a little box will pop up in the bottom-left corner.

4. Type this into the Run box:
\\computername\c$

5. Then click OK. Replace "computername" with the actual name you gave the computer you want to connect to. (Make sure the slashes are facing the right way - you want a backslash.)

6. The folders on the hard drive for the other computer will pop right up. If you have more than one hard drive on the other machine just change the drive letter in the run box. For example: \\computername\d$

7. If this doesn't work then the computers aren't networked together properly. They aren't talking to each other. Call the manufacturer of the router you bought and they will usually help you out.

This may seem a bit tricky, but it isn't anything that most people can't figure out. Once you have done it once it is cake, and you will use it all the time. It is totally the easiest way to connect to another computer.

Once the computers are networked you can also use "Mapped Network Drives". That is a good Yahoo! search for ya!

HTH - Peace

It requires a router. Be careful in which router you buy. Some only allow on connection to the Internet at a time even though they may have 3 or 4 ports.

Several easy ways

1) You can use a product called Network magic
It will set it up for you
The premium version has file sharing and runs for a month
In that month you can learn to set up sharing manually if you want to

2) Secondly you can create your won virtual private network with a program called hamachi

at the back of your firewall (your router is a firewall) each device could desire to have a special IP handle. Your router makes use of community handle Translation (NAT) to make connections to the exterior worldwide, so the internet will see all your machines as a unmarried IP handle, the universal public IP handle on the exterior interface of your router.

first if you want a netowrk you need a switch hub or a router (if you need to share internet) then if you have either switch hub or router you need a CAT5 network cable...after connecting them to either hub/router then you need to configure your system for networking..
