I have a cable modem that is connected to a Linksys wireless router. The router is connected by a cable to one computer and is connected wirelessly to a second computer. It seems like every year or so, the wireless computer won't
be able to access the internet, but the other computer still will. Someone from a computer shop will come do something to some settings and then it will work again. I think this might have something to do with resetting some sort of key. Does anyone know what might be happening?

Your main computer which is connected by your router and cable modem should have a SSID (your network name) as well as the encryption WEP key. You are suppose to set this up.

Once you set this up then all your other computers and laptop should be set up with the same SSID and WEP key (case sensitive). After that your computers and laptop will be able to access the internet wirelessly from your router.
