it doesnt have an installer to the drivers. 2 executibles that 'copy' the drivers to who knows where. and tell windows where the folder to the bell south drivers is, it says it cant find any. :(

why wont the drivers from the bellsouth website work? what's the error msge? i can help you but please provide as much info as you can :) i'll check back in a while ;)

alright

1. find out if your pc has windows OS 32-bit or 64-bit
-> right click my computer and left click properties
-> it might say "windows XP/VISTA 32 edition or 64 edition"
2. go to http://fastaccess.drivers.bellsouth.net/
3. locate westell under the first column
4. scroll down to Westell 6100 USB Driver: and click 32 bit driver or 64 bit driver on your screen (depending on what you find out on your my computer properties)
5. a download screen will come up and you have to save it on your desktop
6. uninstall your current USB driver from device manager (right click my computer, and from the hardware tab click device manager, look for Network Adapters)
7. unplug your USB cable from the pc and replug it
8. once plugged in the Found New Hardware Wizard will appear. click next
9. select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and then click on the Next button
10. put a check mark next to Include this location in the search and click on the Browse button
11. browse to the location of the USB drivers on the desktop
12. click ok to accept the location and click next to finish installing

it should be installed properly after these steps. and you'd see a Westell Wirespeed Dual Connect Modem under Network Adapters already

if not, i'll check back in a few minutes :)

good luck!

also, do you have an installer CD from bellsouth?

Westell Dsl Modem

*update* make sure you don't have the usb connected when trying to use ethernet- on some dsl modems if anything connected on the usb side, the ethernet port is automatically disabled.

Just connect via the modem's ethernet port to your computer's network card using a regular CAT5 cable- then you don't need drivers at all... If your modem has both USB and ethernet ports, definitely use Ethernet.

If this particular DSL modem is USB-only, then driverguide is a good place to look, if you can stand all the advertising. Or you could look for a model with an Ethernet port (which you'll need later anyway, if you decide to get a router)
